House Committee on Natural Resources Switches to TownVOTE Electronic Voting System

We’re no stranger to working with the US government to help make their voting processes faster, more efficient, and more secure. Since 2018, we’ve partnered with the House Committee on Natural Resources, who utilize TownVOTE and clickers to record the votes at their Markup Meetings. After previously using a lengthy voting process that involved individually recording the votes of each house member, transitioning to electronic voting allowed the committee to significantly cut down on the time for each vote while instantly confirming their results with visual vote confirmation.

In past meetings, the committee has relied on roll call voting. Members are individually called upon to cast their vote, one at a time, and all votes are counted manually. While this process can ensure that every vote is counted accurately, it sacrifices speed and efficiency because members are unable to vote at once. If there are fifteen different motions to vote on, and forty voting members, the total number of individual votes is multiplied to 600. All that extra voting time can cut into debate and discussion- not to mention causing unneeded stress for everyone at the meeting!

Switching to TownVOTE streamlined the committee’s voting process, allowing them to save time on each motion while maintaining the accuracy and security of the roll call voting sessions of previous meetings. Now, instead of individually calling upon each member to vote, all voting participants were able to vote together on each motion using our dedicated voting clickers. Voters were able to simply push green for “Yes,” or red for “No,” right at their seats, where the results were automatically recorded by the software. Voters were even able to see that their vote was visually represented on the projector voting grid, allowing the committee to confirm that every vote had been counted. By consolidating their voting process, the House committee was able to cut hours from the voting process and more time on the issues themselves, resulting in a more efficient meeting unhindered by the time-consuming process of manual vote counting.
