The need for faster, more efficient voting sessions can affect organizations of all sizes. From local town councils with three to five members, all the way up to the US House of Representatives, we’ve worked closely with each client to find a voting solution that fits the needs and demands of their particular meeting workflow.
Since 2018, we’ve partnered with the House of Representatives’ Committee on Natural Resources, who primarily use the system to record votes at their markup meetings. Given their continued success with using the system and Meridia’s proven track record for providing prompt and personalized customer service, it was only natural for our relationship with the House to expand to include six more committees who are now utilizing TownVOTE for their meetings.
“The use of an electronic voting system helps us process the full markup votes among the 50+ members — accurately — in less than two minutes. By comparison, it used to take us 10 minutes to vote on a single item.”
-– Nancy Locke, Chief Clerk at Committee on Natural Resources
The Committee on Natural Resources relied on “roll call voting” in prior meetings before partnering with Meridia. Members were individually called upon, one at a time, to cast each vote. Each vote was also counted manually. While this process ensured accuracy during vote-counting, it was also a lengthy, time-consuming process that became exponentially more inefficient when voting on multiple motions. For example, if there are fifteen motions to vote on and forty total voting members, the total number of votes is multiplied to 600!
Switching to TownVOTE allowed them to take a different approach. Instead of each member voting individually, they could now vote together as a collective with our dedicated voting keypads, which automatically tallied each vote while preserving anonymity. By consolidating their voting process, the committee was able to cut hours of time from the meeting and focus more on the issues themselves.
We are happy to announce that along with the Committee on Natural Resources, six more House committees have made the switch to a Meridia voting system. These include the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Financial Services Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Science, the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, the Space and Technology Committee, and the Armed Services Committee. We are grateful to be the House of Representatives’ voting system of choice and look forward to an incredible relationship with all of their committees going into 2024 and beyond.
